The event was sponsored by the UNM libraries, the Friends of the UNM Libraries and by Dr. S. R. Shapiro, a New York medical doctor and patron of the libraries.“Possibly the best collection in the world of material on the Jicarilla Apache“--in the contest judges’ opinions--earned Veronica E. Tiller, a member of that tribe who is a UNM graduate student in history, the second prize of $100. She will donate her collection of law briefs, history of land grants, photographs and other materials, gathered at great cost in effort and time, to form the nucleus of a library for her people at Dulce, N.M.
