Saturday tennis tournament lures Templars to ProvoSaturday is “work day” lor the Mantl High School tennis team. Sunday should be a needed day of rest. And Monday will be wash day for mothers to scrub out dirty gym shorts and perspiration filled T-shlrts.Saturday Is the state tennis tournament at Provo. MHS will be defending their state championship. Individually to do this each boy participating must play In a maximum of three matches, each ranging In duration from three-fourths of an hour to two and one-half hours. This can be a real test of endurance, especially on a hot day suchas was the case In 1970.After having won the Region Seven crown last week, Jim Bralthwaite, Brian Hatch, Mark Aston, Eric Christensen, and Reed Hatch all qualified for state. The Templars have won this tournament consecutively for 14 years.Results of the region are; Jim Bralthwaite won the first singles division defeating Jeffery Peterson, Wayne, 6-0,6-0, and David Wilkey, Juab, 6-4, 6-1. Brian Hatch was the number two victor with a 6-0, 6-0, decision over Bert Blaek, Wayne, and a 6-2,6-4, win from Rex Wilkey, Juab. Mark Astonbyed and defeated CralgSperry, Juab, 6-2, 6-0.In doubles Eric Christensen and Reed Hatch defeated Randy Cox and Lamar Dyches of North Sanpete, 6-2, 6-1, and then defeated Dave Tulley and BeviR Orme, Juab, 6-3, 6-0.In a match last week the Templars downed a strong Bountiful team 3-2. Bountiful's over-all record was 17-4 In A and AA competition. Winning the three singles were Braith-walie, Aston and Brian Hatch. Doubles losses were recorded by Hal Stott, Paul Knight, Brad McGarry and Bruce Monson.
