IN MEMORIAM. John W. Tribby, more familiarly and better known as Grandpa Tribby, passed away at two o'clock Wednesday morning, May 11th, at the home of his daughter in this city after a month's illness. While his symptoms indicat ed serious conditions and aroused ap prehensions, his wonderful vitality made friends hope for an early recov ery. He was in his eighty-sixth year having been born in Harrison county, Ohio, Aug. 20, 1818. When a boy, he was apprenticed to his father in the tanner’s trade and spent early life in this occupation. May Y2nd, 1839 he married Miss Jane Howard and they were the parents of ten children, five daugrhters and a son survive and with twenty-three grand-children and three great-grand-children mourn his de mise. Mr.o and Mrs. Tribby celebrat ed their golden wedding fifteen years ago and she was taken from him eight years ago. During this time he has spent most of the time with his daugh ter, Mrs. Taylor. He was an unusual man in many ways. As a life member of the Friends church he exemplified the simple life and high character of the Quakers. For a man of his years his sight, mem ory and mind were remarkable, t He was a very friendly man and compan ionable with old and young, and will be greatly missed, especially by the re latives and friends in Mr. Pleasant. A year ago there were nine octogener ans in the parish of the Congregation aleduceh. Of these he is the third to be laid away since November first. The others were Mrs. Amy Taylor and Mrs. James McDowell. The funeral was at the house and in terment in the cemetery at Salem be side his wife. The pall-bearers were his son, Chas. TH. Tribby: his sons-in law, M.D. K. Weimer, Levi Parkins, Samuel Spray and Alfred Taylory and grandson, Howard Weimer, Rev. Jonathian Lee, a lifelong friend of the family was assisted in conducting the services by Rev. F. L. Johnston, who had been with the deceased and family often during the last four years. The texts chosen for the remarks were Ps. 1951, “With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation,’ and Job 5:26, ‘Thou shall come to thy grave in a fullagea asi shock of corn in its season.” The choir of the Mt Pleasant ensured sor “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Jesus Lover of Soul.’ At the grave the Salem choir sang “Asteep in Jesus.” He has set a high example of true piety and industry for his children and grandchildren and friends to fol low.
