SENATOR. REID DEAD.James Reid, Senator for. Cariboo,*died at his residence, Melville street, Vancouver, last week, Mrs. Reid and his sous being- present at the end. Last autumn the Senator was in a runaway accident in Cariboo, in which he was seriously injured, and from the effects of which he never really recovered. He left for Ottawa before the opening of Parliament to attend to his legislative duties, but was taken seriously ill soon after his arrival at the capital. He was brought back to Vancouver, where he had made his home for spme years past, in the hope that the mildclimate of the coast would assist his recovery, and. he not only stood the journey well, but also showed a considerable improvement in health, and it was hoped would recover. Unfortunately, however, he-suffered, a relapse and the end was somewhat sudden, as, while he was very ill Tuesday after .noon, it was not thought he would pass away so soon; in fact, there was hopes that he might rally. These hopes were disappointed, however, and he passed away at 8 o’clock that night. His death leaves a. vacancy in the Senate lor which there are already various aspirants, but it is more than likelythat Hey/it Bostock will receive the% • • * /appointment. Delegations have interviewed Mr. Bostock requesting him to accept* the position and he has beenendorsed by the different Liberal Asso-♦ciations throughout the whole interior of B. C. Under the circumstances heis the only man for the position and it is expected his appointment will soon be announced.
