College Sean Davies, of Rio Rancho, has been selected as the Stolar Research Corporation scholar ship recipient. The scholarship is in the amount of $2,000 for the 2013-2014 school year. The scholarship criteria requires the recipient to attend New Mexico State University or the University of New Mexico, carry at least a 3.5 overall GPA with academic achievement in math and science, and major in elec trical, mechanical or software engineering. Davies has chosen to major in mechanical and minor in electri cal engineering at UNM, with the ultimate goal of obtaining a masters degree. Davies has shown academic achievement by graduating in the top ten percent of his class at the ASE Academy Charter School with a 3.7 over all GPA. Davies’s extracurricu lar and community involvement comprises serving as a math tutor, submitting engineering designs to research and develop ment firms, and playing piano for senior citizens. Keaton Fletcher of Rio Rancho, a member of the Class of 2013 at Washington and Lee University, has earned honor roll status for the recently ended win ter term 2013. Honor roll status at Washington and Lee repre sents a term grade average of at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale. Lewis University has select ed Rio Rancho resident Linda Frank for induction into the Lambda Epsilon Delta Chapter of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. Frank is seeking a bachelor of science degree in Accountancy at Lewis. Military Army Pvt. Mathew Allerton has graduated from basic infan try training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. During the nine weeks of train ing, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weap ons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army his tory, core values and traditions. Additional training included devel opment of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman. Allerton is the son of James Allerton of Rio Rancho. He is a 2008 graduate of Rio Rancho High School, Army Reserve Pfc. Devin Byrd has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradi tion and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemi cal warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises. Byrd is the son of Crystal Crawford of Rio Rancho. He is a 2012 graduate of Haysville High School, Kan. 2nd Lt. Jacob Clark gradu ated from combat systems officer training on March 22 at Navel Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. His first assignment will be at McConnell AFB, Wichita, Kan., to fly the KC 135 StratoTanker as a navigator. Clark is a 2007 graduate of Rio Rancho High School. He gradu ated from Oklahoma Christian University with a degree in math ematics and was commissioned through ROTC from University of Oklahoma. Clark is the son of Kelly Cochrane of Rio Rancho. Army Pvt. Howard Mosley has graduated from basic infan try training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military jus tice, physical fitness, first aid and Army history, core values and traditions. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military dis cipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills. Mota is the son of Blanca Sotelo of Rio Rancho. He is a 2011 graduate of Independence High School, Army Reserve Pvt. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military disci pline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Olson is the son of Mike and Fran Olson of Rio Rancho. He is a 2009 graduate of Rio Rancho High School.
