MONTICELLO — Ten policemen, three civilians and one department will be honored at the second annual Police Honor Awards dinner next Sunday night at Kutsher’s Country Club. The dinner is sponsored by The Times Herald-Record and the Orange County Police Chiefs’ Assn. Award winners will be announced at the dinner, said Herb Glass, honor awards committee chairman. Glass, one of two civilians on a seven-man committee that screened nominees, said Sunday he is delighted with the caliber and number of nominees. “I'm delighted that in its second year, this committee handled nearly three dozen nominations. Because of the caliber, we decided to award honorable mentions in several of our 10 categories. “What's unfortunate, of course, is that some very fine police work that in other years might qualify for an award, did not this year. But I'm delighted that outstanding police activity that too often is ignored, and seemingly unappreciated by the public, is being given proper recognition.”’ The number of awards categories was increased for the 1974-75 award year from four to 10. Nominations ended April 30. Glass said, but nominations for the 1975- 76 awards are being accepted, he noted. Last year's winners included Inv. Wilfried Holik and Inv. Walter E. Hubert of the state police, Lt. Charles Dino of the Middletown Police Dept., Inv. Fred D. Haight of the state police, the Sullivan County Sheriff's Dept., Pts. Francis Navarra of the Newburgh Police Dept. and civilians Howard Terwilliger of Wawarsing and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Graziano of Otisville. Committee members include, besides Glass, Maj. Raymond M. Kisor. Troop F state police commander. Chief Harold Weigele of Middletown, Chief William Spangenburg of Town of Newburgh. Chief Andrew Margillo of Greenwood Lake. Sullivan County Sheriff Joseph Wasser and Glenn Doty. Times Herald-Record managing editor. Judge Robert C. Williams again will be master of ceremonies. A limited number of tickets remain Spangenburg said, and are available from area police chiefs. Ticket sales end Wednesday, he said.
