State Health Depardment Report To clarify any misunderstand ings, and to explain the role of the [State Department of Mentth tt jus vwenile cases, the procedures for repecation of the Idaho Youth Re habilitation law have been outlined by Dr. Terrell O. Carver, Idaho Administrator of Health. Under the law, juveniles appre hended by law enforcement of ficers are referred float to either the probate or district court, de pending on the circumstances. The court may dispose of the case itself, or may commit the juvenile to the State Hoard of Health. If the court wishes, the health department's youth rehabilitation officer will supply such pre-sen tence services as evaluations, case histories and ther studies, using resources most local communities cannot provide. If the court commits a juvenile to the Board of Health, all social, musical and schol information on the youngster is gathered an stud ied. Following a review of the case, the bealht department offi cials work out a program for the rehabilitation of the young offend ee. He may be placed of proba tion,put in a private home or vi ce Children's Hone, committed to State Hospital South for psy chiatric evaluation or care if need ed, or he may be committed, to the State Industrial Training School at St. Anthony, juveniles committed to the board of health remain under the board’s jurisdiction untill they are 21 years of age or until discharge d by the board. It should be noted that these procedures are not the same in felony cases. The State Board of Corrections my, if it chooses, res ter the juvenile felon to the board of health, but the court has the authority to genteope him directly to the stale penitentiary.
