There is such a demand for Red Cross evening gray ladies at Hines Veterans Administration hospital that the Red Cross again is ap pealing for more village women to aid in this program, which pro vides recreation, fun, and person alized services for patients. Vol unteers especially are needed for programs scheduled on weekdays from 6 to 9 p.m., and for special assignments on Saturdays and Sundays. Red Cross evening gray ladies assist in providing recreational programs for the patients by play ing games, organizing ward parties, acting as escorts,for ward entertainers who volunteer their time, or sometimes’ by just talk ing to those who cannot leave the hospital but who nevertheless like to know “what’s going on out side.” They also write letters, push wheelchair patients to audi torium programs, read to those hospitalized, and perform other personalized services. Women between the ages of 21 and 55 with a high school educa tion or its equivalent, who are American citizens with a suitable temperament for dealing with con valescents are invited to become Red Cross evening gray ladies. Volunteers will be trained by Red Cross for evening gray lady service in a four-session course be ing held May 16, 18, 23, and 25, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at Chicago Chapter headquarters, 529 South Wabash. Enrollment for this vital Red Cross service can be done by com ing in for a personal interview at the Oak Park River Forest Red Cross headquarters, 128 South Marion.
