FRIDAY, MAy 12, 1899. Owing to the inability to make railroad connection Dr. John C. Kilgo will deliver the closing address of Morganton Male Academy in the court house on Tuesday night, May 23rd, instead of Monday, as announced last week. Mr. R. K. Harris, of the Hickory marble works, was here Tuesday and Wednesday looking after the erection of the monument in memory of Engineer Tillman Walton, who was killed in a railroad wreck near Hickory last year. Messrs. Lazarus Bros., fir. Breese, W. A. Leslie and Mrs. A. E. Hicks have an arrangement with Mr. F. W. Tyler, the photographer, whereby you can get a half dozen cabinet photos and one carbonette, 8x10, framed complete, for the low price of $1.08 by trading 25.00 with either of the firms named. Ask for a card after the first of next week in order that your purchases may be recorded on the same. As Messrs. Lewis McKes son and James Walton were returning from the D. and D. School Thursday night of last week their bogey ran off of an embankment and turned bot tom side up. The young men were thrown out and pretty badly shaken up. They nar rowly escaped serious injury. There were only slight dam ages to horse and buggy.
