Childs is getting ready to erect a fine residence on North Market St. The war between the Democratic candidates for Sheriff is an exciting one. All owners of bicycles are requested to attend a meeting to be held at D. Nice’s store this evening. Benedict Mellinger, aged 85 years residing just west of Jefferson, died this morning of gangrene. Ike Putnam, the colored man sent to the penitentiary from this county for life, is head cook of the prison. The Misses Hein will have an addi tional story put on to the rear part of their East Liberty street residence. The terms for the subscriptions to secure the piano factory are so easy that all can afford to give something. Proctor E. Seas, of Orrville, has been elected President of the Northeastern Ohio Volunteer Firemen’s Association, D. W. McConnell is at home from Columbus out of a job. A Republican having been appointed to the position held by him in the Steward 8 office, Co. D will be inspected this evening by Col. J. C. Howe, Asst Adjt. Gen eral, Col Geo. K. Gyger, commanding 8th Regt. O N. G.,and Lieut. Evan M. Johnson, of the Regular Army. Capt. Frase and Lieuts. Lane and Kuhns of Co. I, of Canton were here for examination last evening. The Officers of Co. K, of Alliance, will be here this evening for the same purpose. These examinations are conducted by Gol. C. V. Hard. Federick Kkostenbader and wife hereby tender their thanks to the em ployer of the Standard Coach Pad Co . and also to their neighbors and friends for the kindness shown and for sym pathy expressed during the illess and death of their daughter, Miss Carrie Kostenbader. Tranmaster W. A. Boutson ysester day morning sustained a paralyetic shock that has affected his entire right side, throat and speech. His condition is regarded as critical by the attending physician, Dr. John A. Gano. He was reported somewhat improved this afternoon. The piano factory subscription still lacks considerable of the sum necessary required to secure the removal to this city. Itts of the utmost importance that the full amount be raised by to morrow night. Do not let it be said that Wooster did not have public spirit enough to secure a factory on the terms by which this established insti tution can be located in our city. ‘You all know we need it. Mrs. Pierce, wife of an Apple Creek dry goons merchant died Tuesday morning under sad circumstances. On retiring Monday night she said to the family that they should not call her in the morning as she was very tired and wanted a good sleep. At midnight her husband was awakened by hearing her breathing heavily. She could not be aroused and when the physician arriv ed it was found that she had sustained a paralyetic stroke She expired at 6 8. W. Dever having regained conscious ness. All persons having heard stories of alleged cruelty at the County Infirm ary will confer a favor by calling at this office. The REPUBLICAN proposes to investigate the matter. If the charges are not true Supt. McIntyre and the attendants should be exoner ated on the other hand if one-tenth part of the rumors are true we shall insist on an investigation and feel assured that the public as well as the Infirmary Directors will feel the im portance of letting the tax-payers know just how the inmates are treated.
