The hospitals spend nearly $1,000,000 a year on provisions, fuel, light, power, ice, refrigeration, machinery, tools, plumbing, steam-fitting and similar services.It would take a powerful corporation to meet a payroll of $4,100 a day, seven days a week and a local purchases account of $3,000 a day in addition for supplies.
