At 4:30 this afternoon at the Bap tist church in Corsicana a sotemp sacred service will be held whep hundreds will assemble for the fan*, eral services of W. A. Hicks of j Wortham, field superintendent at Currie for the J. K. Hughes Devel-• oping Company, who lost his life ia s the Powell oil well fire.At that time and between then and » five o'clock- all of the major and s minor oil companies operating in the j Mexia district, with headquarters here will close their doors out of their respect to Mr. Hicks and other* i who made the supreme sacrifice while . at their post of service at the Me**; Kie.i The J. K. Hughes Developing com-; j pany's offices have been closed thru— n out the day in fitting observance of | the occasion. Mr. Hughes left for; 'j Corsicana early this morning and Mrs. Hughes left later in the day to . attend the funeral services, i Colonel Albert E. Humphreys of . the Humphreys Oil company stated . that his buildings would all be clos-: ed for the funeral services and ha . and bis men^ in field and in offices,; stood ready at a moments beckon to i respond to any wish or any service : that might show their‘appreciation , of the sacriyce of life or which would . help those left behind.Dr. Bay less, Pield Secretary of the Humphreys- Potmdation proposed that activities in the entire field cease for,. five minutes, at a certain definite hour, in the next few days while tho men spend the period in meditation^ and prayer, as a mark of respect fof• -the dead and for their living loved ones.The Texas Company, Humble, Gulf, Prairie, E. L.
