DEATH OF CIVIL WAR VETERANMartin V. B. Kerns died Tuesday evening at 8 o’clock at Ms home south of LaGrahge at the age of 78 years. Mr Kerns was born in Champaign county. Ohio, December 23 1842 and grew to manhood there. When the civil war broke out he enlisted in the 66th Ohio Infantry, serving as corporal. He was with Sherman in the march to the sea and was in many hard fought battles in his four years of service. He also participated in the grand review in Washington at the close of the war. After the war he settled in Clear-spri ng township where he had resided for more*than a half century. He and Mrs. Kerns celebrated their golden weddirfg' anniversary February 27, 1920. Surviving him are his wife one son W. S. Kerns; two daughters: Mrs. J. W. Dunafin and Mrs. Charles Kizer,, all of this county; one sister, Mrs. Susie Brown, of Columbus Ohio; fifteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mr. Kerns was for many years a member of the Beulah Methodist church in Cleaarspring township, and was an excellent citizen. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Beulah church, Rec. Thurman Mott officiating. Interment in Jordan cemetery.
