Hensley and Robert E. Willis received the certificate of award from Jackson D. Miller IH, president of the local bar association, who accepted it on behalf of his group last Friday at the annual convention of the Florida Bar, at Miami.First Time In HistoryThe Florida “Award of Merit” for 1962-63 was merited by the Manatee Association for the first time in this association's history. It is the highest award a local bar association can receive from the state group.The award is based on a study of a report which includes a compilation of works done by the local association and its evaluation by a panel of judges, appointed by the Florida Bar, which determines the comprehensiveness of the association’s entireprogram, its aims, achievements general progress and significant contributions to the improvement of tbs profession of law in Florida.Great weight is attached by the judges to the percentages or degree of total members participating and benefits accruing to the local organization, its members and the public at largeManatee County Bar Association’s award was based on a report detailing more than 25 projects pursued by the association during the year, some of the programs including institution of the first public Law Forum here, work on the Law Library, Legal Aid to Indigents, maintenance of a speaker’s bureau, cooperation with the American Bar Association, with law enforcement agencies and with related professions through joint committees.Many other projects, involving work in the legal profession and the betterment of the community through programs available to the Bar Association, were also includedAll active members of the association served on committeesduring the year and helped put I into effect the program which won the high award.
