Maitre Antoine Bervin of Haiti, was the distinguished speaker of last Sunday in the basement of St. Andres church. He gave most striking comments of his far-off country, from Christopher Columbus to our days. It was the most interesting feature of the season for the French Canadian population, who sincerely found the event to be the most instructive and enjoy able. The Haitian orator proved himself a much talented and con vincing narrator, while exposing facts and life of the inhabitants of the famous island. He captivated his audience, and the purity of his dialect, and the charming intonations of his impeccable French brought him sincere and warm applause and congratulations. J. C. Boldue acted as master of ceremonies. Manager Arthur Decary was the first to greet the distinguish ed visitor, then Mayor Landry with appropriate words gave the noted guest a cordial and friendly welcome in the name of the city. Miss Helene Thivierge pre sented Maitre Bervin. Musical selections were render ed by Paul Charland, Chant Patriotique, (Jose de La querriere) accompanied by E. Croteau, followed by Mosaique de J. Vezina, played by Miss Ger trude Vallee, Laureate of Uni versite de Laval of Quebec; La Feuille d’Erable, E. Larieu, sung by a group of St. Josephs chorale, accompanied by Miss Alice Cote, Laureate of Univer site Leval of Quebec, and a duet, Pasquinade de Gottchalk, by the Misses Rita and Pauline Lamirande, Laureate and Su perior of Universite Laval of Quebec.
