Murray this week issued the following statement: “after three years’. service ‘as your chief, official 1 had felt[that I had] earned a rest from ‘public office, many of my friends, however, urged ‘me to “since the filing of my petition, I have received the endorsement of the Garwood Civic Republican League, and also the Garwood Workmen's ‘Repub lican Club. . “It is opinion that’ candidate, for public “afice should be known to the electors. I’ therefore present. let personal’ history for the benefit of anyone who may be ‘interested. I was born in Ireland 41 years ago, educated in the public schools, arrived in the United States in 1912, served 4 years and 108 days in the world war, (wounded and gassed), held executive position in Elisabeth for twelve years, at present emptied by the State of New Jersey, a property owner and resi dent for the past nine years.Have:two children attending our local schools; elected Councilman in 1930; elected Mayor in 1831 for the ‘one-year term; re-elected for the full term in 1932 t han now seeking a further nomination as Republican candidate in November. “During my term as a public official I have endeavored to live up to my promise to give Garwoods more eff eient and economical government than, “If you will look at your tax bills you will see that for many years the taxes im* Garwood have’ been increasing steadily year after year, until 1983 and 1934 when you have’ had a decrease, ’ “It has only been through the hard “eat efforts and self sacrifice of your present administration that this has’ ‘been accomplished. _ Diging my term the closest har mony has’ prevailed between “Council ‘and the elected members of the ‘Board of Education, to ‘the ‘end that we‘ have held joint meetings on finance as often as twice monthly.
