This knocked his crop all to pieces, but all the same he got a bale to the acre.This year he has in eight acres in corn and a small half acre patch of sugar com; eight acres in cotton, of which one is Sea Island cotton planted for experiment; four and a half acres of Irish potatoes; a half acre of bunch butter beans; two acres mixed wheat and oats for grazing; one acre in watermelons, some of the vines having eight leaves; and one half acre in sweet potatoes, six to eight inches high.Later he will plant two acres in peanuts; eight acres in sweet potatoes; one acre in late watermelons; and four acres in cow peas, velvet beans and teosinthe. The lattdf is a hay which grows from twelve to forty inches in height. Mr. Hjelt will also plant two acres of kaffir com and a select variety of cowpeas.Mr. H^elt holds the position of a paymaster to the Atlantic Coast Lumb#V wi'iiGrati°n and runs his farm in addition* * ttc his made friends here in the community and he deserves to make them, as he is a man of culture and of probity. It is interesting to note that Mr. Hjelt is firmly of the opinion that his countrymen would do well here and that they would come in numbers with the proper inducement.
