New Albany, sparked by record setting Bill Robinson and Kenny Head, amassed seven first places to finish far ahead of the rest of the field yesterday afternoon in the THSAA Sectional track and field meet at Seymour. The Bulldogs, who qualified 13 men and both relay teams for next week’s Regional at Linton, totaled 55 points while Columbus with only four qualifiers was second with 21 points. Other teams scoring and num ber of qualifiers in parentheses were Providence 17% (4), Sey mour 14 (8), Scottsburg 12 (2), Salem 11(2 and mile relay), Clarksville 7 (1), Brownstown (2), Jeff 6 (2), Madison Shawe 5 (1), Georgetown 3 (1), South western 8 (1), West Washington 2% (1),and North Vernon 2. Teams failing to score were Aus tin, Crothersville, Corydon, Lanes ville, Madison, Morgan Township North Central, Pekin, Vernon, and Vevay. New Albany’s Robinson led the assault on the records by posting new marks in the 100 and 220- yard dashes. His 10 seconds flat in the 100 erases a :10.1 by Jeff’s Marvin Allen.. Robinson ran the 220 in :21.5 surpassing the 22.6 seconds by Seymour’s Danny Thomas. Head, the top quarter miler in Indiana, stopped his specialty in 50.2 breaking his own mark of 51.1 of last year. The New Al bany junior has been as low as 49.2 in the 440 this season. The only’ other ‘record to fall was in the low hurdles where Sey mour’s David Bottorff won in 20.0, eclipsing the 20.1 of an other Owl athlete, Tom Bollinger. The meet’ had another double winner as New Albany’s Carl Lie bert, captured the pole vault (12’642”) and the high jump (5'1116”). Providence had one first place ‘as Marshall Davidson toured the half mile in the fine time of 2:03.8. Clarksville also placed one in the winners circle when David Taylor took the shot put with a toss of 50 feet, four inches. Jeff failed to win a first place.
