Wha* ho! The crowd doth move in divers ways. Driving into Alice Saturday af ternoon, Sam Saylor, en route were to Visit friends, ran into one of those freakish weather phen omena that meterologists can glibly explain but that always elicit wonder from the public in general. Sam, who hails from Goldth- Waite, county seat of Mills coun ty in West Central Texas, encoun tered a somewhat harried motorist just south of Ben Bolt. This fel low traveler was driving a con vertible and the top had so many small holes in it it looked like as a gigantic sieve. A sudden fall of hailstones was responsible. The man in the convertible just couldn't get the top of his car down soon enough—it provided he had wanted to take the hail on his own top instead of that of the car. He explained he had cross ed the hail zone just south of Ben Bolt. Saylor drove on and hit the dis turbed area but missed the hail However, he could see hailstones lying about as big as a man’s thumb uip. He ran into rain, hea vy rain. The peculiar thing—im mediately previous—was that the rain was confined to a compara tively narrows star about 100 yards wide A_ passine motorist entered the rain belt as though crossing a line, then emerged from at 100 yards distance. A hea vy wind was blowing too. One of nature’s vagrant whims.
