Yet With One Lung Makes Staff of Salt Lake Bees SALT LAKE CITY, Utah.—One of the most promising pitchers on the staff of the Salt Lake Bees is Bill Wilhelm, a former serviceman. Man ager Joe Orengo didn't learn of Bill’s war record until after he had ordered the squad to run around the field one day, and the pitcher reported at the end of 15 minutes he couldn't go any farther. Orengo asked Wilhelm how old he was and when Bill said 22, Joe said he ought to be ashamed of himself to be corkied out so soon at his age. “Well,” the pitcher said apologetically, ‘I've only got one lung.” Wilhelm hadn't mentioned his con dition, because, it turned out, he didn't want to discuss his war rec ord. Then it developed that, as a paratrooper, Bill was shot through the lung in an airborne attack on Holland. Despite the handicap, the pitcher seems likely to make the grade with the Bees. Frank Kluzmk was obtained from Stock ton of the California loop to replace Botelho, Infielder Bob Shreeve filling in until Kluznik arrived. . . .
