‘Lige Nix, negro ,employe of George Malone, is in the Lake Coun ty Hospital, and when taken from there, probably today, will be lodged in jail at Tavares charged with reck less. driving and driving while jin toxicated.. The visit to the hospital was to have a bullet removed from the back of his head. *Lige violated about’ all the traffic laws there are Sunday night, in town and out, driving Mr. Malone’s truck, with Richard Shipes, local po lice officer on his trail and making various efforts to head him off. Fi nally ,Lige drove into an orange grove, jumped from the truck and ran, Shipes following, also afoot. Mr. Shipes drew his pistol with the intention of shooting over the negroe’s head, but just as he pulled the trigger he stepped into a hole and the shot went below where it was intended, striking ’Lige in the back of the head... He was only slightly injured, but Mr. Shipes has had to stand considerable joking on the occurrance.
