G.Iiohn *r w ho was tin* directing genius• d the production. Particular interest centered in it for the reason it giveopportunity for hearing a former DU* bi»uue *r who has won great laurels in the vocal field, Mr. Frank Barnard. The attendance was a royal tribute toMr. Barnard and the others participating in it, and nearly every scat was taken. “Pinafore** is one of the most popular comic operas anil has many9elements that make it pleasing and sat isfactory. It was a happy seleition b Mr. Kohiier and he exhibited rare judgment in selecting the cast. The production was meritorious in every wayand it went with a smoothness and vim that was most gratifying. Thiswas due to Mr. ltohner’s patient drilling of his company and to the interesttin* participants took in it and was tin* reward of patient rehearsal. Thecharacter of “Josephine,” the captain’s daughter, was taken by Miss Naeomi Lagcn and the excellence of her singing was one of the distinct features of the evening. She was frequentlyencored and was in high favor. GraceGurney, as “Hebe,” was a particular favorite and contributed much to thesuccess of the production. Sin* adapted herself well to the part and she wasMay Collinsmuch appreciated.had the part of “Little Buttercup** and realized admirably expectations of her. Her singing showed much natural talent and gives promise of much in theintuit* for her.Edward* •* *ey, as Dic k DeadEye; ltay Thompson as the “Cystain”; F. 15. Gilrain as the “Lord Admiral,” and John P. Larkins, as “Bill Kobstay,” carried their parts exceptionally realistically and were the recipients of much favor. On the whole the production was far in excess of what even the most enthu siastic expected of it and it was reallyenjoyed by all who heard it.
