At7:4f» o’clock Friday morning the twelve men went into the jury-room. At fi o’clock they sent word a verdict had been reached. They were brought into court and the following verdict read amid absolute silence :“We, the jury, find the defend- , ants guilty, and fix their punishment at confinement in the penitentiary for life.\V. P. Chamce, Foreman.The commonwealth's attorney suggested that the verdict be cor- ( rected, and read : “We, the jury, (agree and find the defendants guilty as charged in the indictments, etc., and the jury and court consented. Immediately thecourt discharged the jury from further service.By jermi»sion of the court the defendants and theircounsel withdrew for consultation, returning in ten minutes with the announcement that a motion and grounds for a new trial would be prepared immediately, and filed with the court, which was done.The verdict did not seem to have any effect upon the accused, other than to make them appear lightheaded, as they indulged in fun-making with their friends.
