M.. during the months of March, April, May, June, July, August and September, and after the hour ol 4 o’clock during the months of October, November, December. January and February, ex-cept at the house of the owner or employer of gticli slave, or of the owner or employer of such slave’s wile or husband.Sec. 2.—Be it further ordained, That if any slave not residing in the Corporate limits, shall be found staying therein after the hours specified in the first section, on the Sabbath day, it shall be the duty of the Police Officer to chastise such slave by an infliction of any number of lashes not exceeding twenty-five; Provided. however, that if any slave slmll be sent into town by liia or her owner, overseer or employer on business, which business shall be specified in his or her pass, such slave shall be privileged to remain for a time sufficient for the execution of such business.Sec. 3.— Be it further ordained, That it shall not be lawful for any slave to leave the premises o! his or her owner, overseer or employer, after the hour ol 9 o’clock at night, unles* such slave shall be furnished with a pass, and if any slave shall be found without a pass within the Corporate limits, after 9 o'clock at night, off of the premises of his or her owner, overseer or employer, unless upon the premises of the owner, overseer or employer of such slave's wife or huxband, it shall be the duty of the Police Officer forthwith to punish such slave, by an infliction of any number of lashes not exceeding 25.Sec. 4—Be it further ordained, That if any person shall give, sell or furnish to any slave, within the Corporate limits, an? vinous, spirituous or other strong liquors, wiilmnl the written permission of the owner, overseer or employer of such slave, every such person so offending, shall, for each and every such offence, forfeit and pay the sum ot Ten Dollars, one half of which, when collected, shall be paid to the informer, which shall be recoverable by suit before any Officer having jurisdiction thereof, which suit shall be prosecuted in the name and for the use of the President and Selectmen of aibc town ot Kurt ItUkann. fSec. 5.— Be it further ordained, Thaf it shall f,be the duty of the Police Officer to signify the time at which slaves not residing within the Corporate limits shall be required to leave the town, on the Sabbath day, by tinging the bell of the Court House,on every Sabbath, at the hour c specified in the first section o» this Ordinance. cSf.c. 6.—/fe it further ordained, That it shall ft be the duty of the Police Officer to enforce and j, carry into effect, within the Corp Tate limits, all the laws of this State, in relation to slaves, free negroes and mirhiffne*, »o far as the same can . legally be done ht him. *Sec. 7.— Be it further ordained, That this or- 0dinauce shall take effect and be in force from liand aUer the 3d day of May, A.
