Lil Friesen 377-4712 Receiving awards at the world’s largest Science Fair held at the University of Winnipeg on the weekend were the following: Gold medal Renelda Friesen and Renae Fast; Silver Medal Shelley Hiebert, Delwin Dueck and Trevor Esau and Karla Harms and Naomi Dueck; Bronze Medal - Vicki Martens and Karla Schellenberg. Others included in the science fair were Colleen Friesen and Kerri Friesen. There were 1,300 students enrolled with 740 projects. Congratulations to all of you, Baptism held A special event took place April 28 at the Rosengard Chortitzer Mennonite Church when Neil and Lavonna Penner, Linda Unger daughter to Mr and Mrs Ben Unger and Randy Warkentin son to Mr and Mrs Neil Warkentin follow ed the Lord in baptism. Spending the weekend in Kenora at their cabin were Al and Terri Saalens. The rain Friday-Saturday night did not hamper the activities of the day. Mr and Mrs Pete K. Dueck had the privilege of having Dan Koop visit them. Besides visiting the Dueck’s he did visitations to former students. Mr Koop from the Nipawin Bible School is a son-in-law to the Duecks and is on staff at the Nipawin Bi ble Institute. Bridal shower Hosting a surprise bridal Tupperware shower for Erica Bartel! Wednesday May 1 were long time friends, Glenda Dyck, Lucy Dueck and Marigold Peters. Sweet loaves and beverage were served to the 20 guests. Entertaining guests on the weekend were Peter and Bet ty Friesen. The guests were Bill and Mary Friesen of Lac la Biche, Alberta. Spending April 28-May 2 in Toronto at the head office for the Shantyman was Don McNaughton. Guests from quite a distance at the Albert Friesen home Sunday, May 5 were Doris, Irene and Henry Reimer of Mexico, who are nieces and nephew to the Friesens years. She still enjoys good health and loves gardening. Birthday party A birthday party was held in honour of Mrs Julia Barkman Thursday, May 2. Mrs Barkman turned 70 on that same day. Doing a good job at hosting the party was Wilma Barkman, a daughter-in-law. During her younger years she did enjoy getting involved with various things like being vice president of the local ladies auxiliary, the United Way or taking Census. The Young Peoples from the Kleefeld Evangelical Mennonite Church hosted a fund raising ‘Spaghetti Din ner’ following Sunday mor ning’s worship service. The money will be used for “Abundant Springs ‘85 ’. They were very pleased with the turnout and the support they received. Helping Ken and Eunice McAllister of Steinbach move their belongings to Thunder Bay, Ontario last week were Ben Andres and James Fast, Ken will be manager of the Music Place Store. Spending a few days in the St Boniface Hospital due to surgery was Larry Peters. Congratulations to Levi Schellenberg who received a plaque and pin in recogni tion for 25 years of service in the Public Service of Canada as post master. A fund-raising Slow Pitch Tournament was held Satur day, May 5 at the Kleefeld Park, with eleven teams par ticipating. Coming in first place were the Grunthal Flyers and second place were the Renegades also from Grunthal. Proceeds will go for the Minor Hockey Association. The Hospital Ladies Aux iliary will be holding a garage sale Thursday, May 9 at the back of the Pick Pay Store. Any donations are welcome except for adult clothing. People in atten dance from out of the pro vince came all the way from Alymer, Ontario, Burns Lake, British Columbia, Calgary, Alberta, Swift Cur rent, Wymark, Creighton, Pelly, Kamsack, Hudson Bay, Nipawin, Saskatchewan. Our condolences are ex tended to the family members of Mrs Jacob Koop. Mrs Koop, age 91 passed away at the residence of Ben and Olga Dueck, Sunday May 5. Funeral ser vices were held at the Evangelical Mennonite Church Wednesday May 8. 74th birthday Being recognized on her 74th birthday Wednesday, May was Mrs Nellie Fast, when a few friends came and spent the afternoon with her, Mrs Fast has been active in the Rest Haven Ladies Aux iliary for a good number of The practical man is the adventurer, the investigator, the believer in research, the asker of questions, the man who refuses to believe that perfection has been attain ed...
