Whigham, ‘27, of McAllen, and Mrs. Whigham were callers at the Ex- Students’ office Tuesday. “Doc,’ as he was better known while a student at Southwest ern, has a clinical and x-ray laboratory at the Valley city, and, besides attending to his pro fessional duties, has the job of raising three prospective Southwestern boys, his sons, the oldest of whom is eleven years. Ensign and Mrs. Thomas Ferguson and four months old son, were on the campus re cently visiting the ensign’s mother, Mrs. Ruth M. Ferguson, dean of women, who had the chance of getting acquainted with her first grandson, Ensign Ferguson completed naval training at Dartmouth College and has been transferred to Princeton University. The other Ferguson son, Leonard, ‘37, is now in officers’ training school in Florida. ‘Chaplain T. H. Minga of the United States Army stopped off'in Georgetown last week to visit Mrs. Minga’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. 4. Sam Barcus, after a hurried plane trip from Casper, Wyoming station. A recent issue of the Casper Tribune carried news of Mrs. Minga’s (nee Annie Edward Barcus, ‘22 appearance in a dramatic reading on a Palm Sunday program in Casper. Recent additions to the list of subscribers to the S-Associaten trophy case and picture fund include C. H. Harris, ‘28, Georgetown; John Barcus, ‘25, Austin; Dexter Dickson, ‘27, Aus tin; O. O. Mickle, ‘15, Eastland; and G. B. Win stead, ‘23, College Station. Recent newspapers carried news of the death in April of the Rev. W. W. Hardt, ‘19, pastor of the Methodist Church at Malakoff. Capt. J. L. Davis , ‘40, and Mrs. Davis (nee Mary Sue Witt, ‘41) were recent visitors in the Ex-Students’ office. Capt. Davis is station ed at Pecos. Walter G. Rogers, Jr., ‘38-41, was recently commissioned an ensign in the United States Naval Reserve at the Naval Air Training Center at Corpus Christi. Joseph B. Bowles, Jr., ‘33 of Fort Worth, was recently commissioned a second lieuten ant in the United States Army in graduation exercises at the Adjutant General’s Officer Candidate School at Fort Washington, Md. Anne Marie Doering, ‘31, who left Texas March 5 with 167 other recently enlisted WAACS, was later one of four selected from this group to enter officers’ training school at Des Moines, Iowa. A recent issue of the San Antonio Light carried a picture of SPAR Ensign Annabel Murray, a former teacher of journalism at Southwestern. Ensign Murray was shown taking a lesson in elementary navigation aboard a cutter. Ex-students have been together in meetings at Houston and San Antonio recently. The Houston reception at the Rice Hotel the night of April 15 attracted a large group of exes, and the occasion was highlighted by the sub scription by a Fort Worth citizen of $1,000 to the Living Endowment program. The Hous ton meeting was staged under the leadership of R. Bruce Carter, ‘13-‘15, manager of the Rice Hotel, and head of the Houston organi zation, who was aided in his efforts by John nie Marie Brooks, ‘27, director of religious education at the First Methodist Church. At San Antonio on the night of April 30, Starkey Duncan, ‘27, Southwest Texas Confer ence Vice President of the Ex-Students’ As sociation, was in charge of a good banquet in the Green Room of the Milam Cafeteria, at which H. L. Egger, ‘24, President of the Ex- Students’ Association, made the principal ad dress. Starkey was seconded in his arrange ments for the San Antonio banquet by Wal ter W. Curry, ‘25-'27, secretary of the San Antonio club, and Dorothy Bearden, ‘42, vice president. Present on the occasion were Judge John D. Wheeler, ‘08, Southwestern trustee, and Dr. R. W. Tinsley, former Southwestern professor. The Rev. Stewart Clendenin, ‘22-‘25, pastor of the First Methodist Church at Jackson ville, was a campus visitor Tuesday. He was the chapel speaker Tuesday morning and Tuesday night addressed the annual banquet of the Ministerial Association and Life Ser vice Volunteers. A recent issue of the San Antonio Light carried a picture of carrier pigeon fancier, Walter W. Curry, ‘25-28, secretary of the San Antonio ExStudents’ Club, Marvin M. McLean, ‘88, of Washington, D. C., is visiting Georgetown this week. Mr. Mc Lean, whose father, Dr. John H. McLean, was president of Southwestern University in 1889- 1897, has lived in Washington for many years, having been in the United States civil service. Harry S. Edge, ‘17, of Bryan, and Mrs. , were on the campus Wednesday visit ing their daughter, Lynette Edge. Accom panying them were Mrs. Warren and ee ghter, a prospective Southwestern stunt.
