Letters to the Editor_jTo the Editor of The Chronicle: — One ol the most welcome homecomings ever extended to a group of worthies, was unquestionably in evidence this morning, as the few remaining boys of Company I, from “over-sea” who participated in “decapitating” the plans of the cruel Hun, merged from the train at the Pennsylvania rail road station, to receive the glad-hand of friends, from every point of the “compass,”The boys came forth with the beam of good-will and good humor that characterized their departure many months ago; since which time they have braved torments, even beyond conceptions of the “so-called” mephistoles, whose supposed sul-phurious vapors were indeed tame when compared with the decoction of poisonous passes shot forth by the unspeakable Hun; at the command of the Nero’s of the 20th Century; who have been compelled, through the martyrs to the cause of Liberty, to beg quarter at the feet of such Noble Monarchs of the day, as this morning, graced Pennsylvania avenue; amid greetings on every hand. The importance of attempting to ; add to the heartfelt reception ex-i pressed through cheers, handshakes i and decorations, would be equivalent to an attempt to further fill an overflowing cup of joy; so full of genuine appreciation that a modest allusion to the fuacts seem almost an infringement upon the high honors so nobly earned, by those whom we are indeed proud to welcome. While wre : will never forget those who failed to i return and are in deep sympathy | with the bereaved ones; they should i keen in sight the Star of Liberty, which lighted the way across the deep, at the forfeiture of lives, that the cause of Freedom might not he trailed in the dust, by the “would be” Autocratic sovereign of the world.JOHN B.
