Honors such as come to few men in this work-a-day and often unappreciative world, were bestowed upon a Chicago journalist on Monday evening of this week, when Mr. Henry J. Bohn, for forty years owner and editor of the “Hotel World”, was given a testimonial dinner at the Blackstone Hotel by the Chicago Hotel Association and friends. The affair was in the nature of a “surprise party” to Mr. Bohn and its details were carried out in the most artistic and effective manner by a committee of personal friends, headed by the president of the association.in endearing language, were made by Chicago hotel men, Chicago newspaper men and representatives of hoteldom from Kansas City, Toledo, Omaha, Cincinnati, New York, and from many other points both near and far.One hundred and twenty-five gentlemen, composed mostly of hotel men residing in Chicago and from various cities in the middle west, gathered in the beautiful crystal ballroom of the Blackstone, and into this throng of friends and admirers Mr. Bohn was ushered, and making the rounds of the tables, shook hands with each man present, while the band played and everybody cheered. Then a young woman of great attractiveness, clad in shimmering white, stood beneath the spotlight in the middle of the room and sung The Star Spangled Banner” in a manner which really surpassed any rendition of the national anthem ever heard at a banquet. The dinner itself was, of course, most excellent, which goes without saying, since it was served at theBlackstone.Speeches of a complimentary nature and in many instances couchedOn behalf of those present, the president of the city association, who was also the able toastmaster of the evening, presented Mr. Bohn with a magnificent library table and chairs of mahogany, on the former of which there stood a beautiful lamp and a complete writing set of extreme elegance.
