Josiah Jones Passed Away at Alden Monday. Came to Freeborn County in 1859. Mr. Josiah Jones passed away at his home on Monday at 7 a m., death being due to a complication of diseases and old age. Mr. Jones came to Freeborn county in 1859 and took up his residence on what is now the A. W. Masse farm in Carlston where he resided for about three years when he took up his homestead, a quarter section a few miles nearer Alden. Upon this he made his home with his family un til about eight years ago when hav ing decided to give up farming he moved to the village where he has since resided. Mr. Jones has been an ardent church member all his life, at all times, under all circumstances he walked in the well beaten path of righteousness and when fully con scious that he was nearing the last of earth, he appeared to be fully im pressed with the idea that at the end of time eternity began and that the bright faith which sustain ed him during his last trying hours of suffering would grow brighter and brighter as he journeyed to ward the Infinite, and the final gloom of death be dispelled by the radiance of God’s love. The dying man and sorrowing family looked forward with the same eye of faith to the brighter future where this temporary separation would end in an eternal reunion. He was not only faithful to his church, but just as faithful in believing that it was his duty as a Christian to do the will of the Master at all times. The deceased is survived by his widow, five sons, Eugene J., Chas. V., Herbert W., and Bertram D., all of this county, also one daugh ter, Mrs. David Garlock, of Clear Lake, In. The funeral services were held Wednesday at 1 o'clock p. m., from the home, and 2 o'clock from the M. E. church of which the ven erable gentleman was and had been for many years a very devout mem ber. The Rev. Mr. Moore preached the funeral service and the remains were laid at rest in the Alden ceme tery. The bereaved widow and the family have the sincere sympathy of a wide circle of friends.—Alden Ad vance.
