Daniel T. Hedges, the Leading Spirit,Passes Away.Sioux City. May 2.—Daniel T. Hedges died in San Francisco yesterday morning at liis home, 771 Ellis street. Ten years ago he was a multimillionaire'in Sioux City, leader of a syndicate of boomers who built railroads, terminals, street car systems, stock yards and carried on a multiplicity of immense enterprises.April 25, 1893, the Union Loan and Trust company of this place, which was the. financial engine of the Hedges syndicate, failed. In a few days it was found that it had liabilities of seven millions and almost no assets. The same day Hedges failed for about two millions. Then others of the syndicate failed. The Union Stock Yards company, the' Sioux City and Northern railroad, the Sioux City Terminal railroad, and Warehouse company and many other allied concerns.The boom in Sioux City came, to an abrupt end. All the failures immediately related to the Hedges syndicate operations -aggregated some twenty millions.Hedges left Sioux City and has since been in California, endeavoring to develop mining enterprises. It is understood he was poor when he died. A San Francisco telegram to his relatives here say lie died from inhaling gas from a gas heater. It is not known whether it was suicide.
