by Lydia Penner 326-3421 Seven Steinbach residents and one Niverville resident returned recently from a three-week trip to Paraguay. For Mr and Mrs John H. Kehler the visit was special. Mrs Kehler has two sisters, four brothers and a sister-in-law there, all of whom she hadn’t seen for 27 years. Mr and Mrs Connie Hildebrand and Mrs Hildebrand’s mother Mrs Agnes Friesen visited friends and relatives in Vollendam, Sommerfeld and Bergthal. Among the places they visited were a mill where 1948 Mennonite immigrants stayed before moving out to the farmland to settle down, and the famous falls just over the border in Brazil, which the Hildebrands views from a helicopter. While in Paraguay they attended the silver wedding anniversary of Mr Hildebrand’s brother John and his wife Betty on Sun., April 27. Mr and Mrs Erdman T. Hiebert visited Mr Hiebert’s brother and sister and families, Mr and Mrs John Hiebert and Mr and Mrs Peter Funk at Bergthal, and Mrs Hiebert’s aunt and family, Mr and Mrs Abram Dueck at Sommerfeld, and lots of friends and relatives. Miss Joanell Ketler was honoured at a miscellaneous bridal shower Sunday afternoon at the home of her cousin, Mrs Audrey Loeppky in Winnipeg. Twenty-six friends and relatives attended. The hostess presented Miss Ketler with a corsage of pink feathered mums. Other showers were held previously by another friend in Winnipeg and by Miss Ketler’s colleagues on the Southwood school staff. Bridegroom-elect is Don Smith of Winnipeg and they’re getting married June 28. Mrs George V. Fast (Eileen) and son Mike of New Milford Conn. arrived Saturday to visit her mother, Mrs P.T. Loewen (Reimer Ave.), her sister Anne Loewen and other friends and relatives. They’re staying until Saturday. Mr and Mrs Ken Reimer have moved back to Steinbach after several year’s absence. Mr Reimer was a sales representative of Harkema Forwarders in Vancouver, then in Calgary. At present they are living at the former Arnold Fast home, but they are planning to move to the farm belonging to Mrs Reimer’s parents, Mr and Mrs Jac. A. Klassen at Twin Creek. Mr Reimer is expecting to take a posi tion as manager at Woodlawn Realty shortly. Mrs John H.W. Reimer returned last week Monday from a visit with her daughters in Oregon. Mr and Mrs Walt Barkman recently returned from a two-week visit in Italy. They were members of a group of about 280 ex servicemen and their wives who visited most of the 7 cemeteries in Italy where Canadian dead of the 1939-45 war are buried. Another group visiting the cemeteries at the same time was sponsored by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Memorial services were held in each cemetery, and included Italian officials and units of their armed forces. Three bands participated in all the services. The first cemetery visited was the Rome cemetery, which con tains the graves of 22 Canadians, administrative staff and prisoners of war who died in captivity. While in Rome, both delegations attended a Papal audience. There were also tours to Naples, Pomeii and the Isle of Capri. Other cemeteries visited were: Bari, with 210 Canadian graves; Moro. River - 1,375 Canadian graves; Sangro - two Canadian air men serving with the RAF; Caser ta - 98 Canadian soldiers and one airman; Cassino, which is in full view of the Monastery in the city 855 Canadian graves and plaques listing 192 Canadians who have no know graves: Anzio Beachhead 68; Florenze - 50; Ancona -61; Montecchio - 289: Gradara, a ltcred hillside cemetery - 289; Corriano Ridge - 427; Cesena 307; Ravenna - 438; Villanova 206: and Argents Gap - 75 Cana dian soldiers and two Canadian airmen. Mr Barkman said the Com monwealth War Graves Commis sion has done a beautiful job of landscaping and maintaining these cemeteries. While staying in Ravenna, groups took tours to Venice and to the Republic of San Marino, a small hill country of about 100 acres, which has always been neutral. The trip included a dinner at a Canadian embassy. Mr and Mrs John G.
