Dwight Mehaffy was a bit modest about the hole-in-one he shot on the No. 3 hole at the local golf course Sunday evening, a par three, and I didn’t learn of it until this morning. He used a five iron in making his ace on the 157 yard hole, the first of the season here. His wife and Tony Bendler were with him at the time. As it was getting late they played only six holes. John Roederer of Mt. Pleasant is a member of the Northern Iowa U. golf team this season and shot a fine 68 for 18 holes at Waverly in a double dual Tuesday, winning both of his matches by 3-0 scores. UNI beat Wartburg, 21-3 and Len Minn,, 23-4.4. Ev Miller of New London ranks tied for eighth in the class B trackmen in the state for best time in the 120-yard high hurdles,16.0. Steve Norder of Winfield-Mt. Union is tied for fifth in the class C 100 yard dash with a 10.3 clocking. Tim Krantz of Highland is fourth in the B high jump, 64 ; John Schweizer of Burlington, tied for fourth in the AA long jump, 213”; Dan McConahay, Wapello, fourth in the B long jump, 215”; Kim Steele of Washington, tenth in the AA pole wall, 127” Greg Lintz, Ottumwa, tied for second in the AA 100,9.9; Steve Lark, Ottumwa, tenth in the AA discus, 146'5 , ’; Dave Hoover, Pekin, second in the B discus, 1547 ; Ramey, West Burlington, first in the C discus, 150’3 ; John Buzbeem Winfield-Mt. Freshman tracksters from MPHS, Washington, Fairfield and Keokuk will compete in a Quadrangular meet at McMillan park Thursday at 4 p.m. For the information of local fans interested in the Knoxville super modified races which are held every Saturday night, Bob Williams, Kan sas City, Mo. won the feature last Saturday night, the first time he has done so since Aug. 15, 1964. Jerry Blundy, Galesburg, II, a popular driver, was second in the feature. He won the trophy dash and the third heat. Special races coming up at Knox ville are the U.S.A.C. midgets May 21 and the U.S.A.C. late models June 7. Entries are being accepted for the Ottumwa Amateur tourney at the Ottumwa Country Club course May 25...No more entries are being accepted for the West Liberty Ama teur the same Sunday. Mike Wymore, Iowa A. first base man, formerly of Mt. Pleasant, hit a two run homer in the second in ning of the first game with North ern Illinois at DeKalb, Ill. Tuesday but the Hawks lost, 6-4.
