W., Washington early on j the morning of April 28, of bronchial pneumonia. yServices were held at Grove Avenue Baptist Church at 4:00 P. M. on April 29 in Richmond and he was buried in j Hollywood Cemetery.Was Teacher, Author Dr. Pollard was well known as a teacher, an author, and a student of government in addition to his being 1 a public official.The former Governor, who was in the graduating class of John Marshall in 1888 with Mr. Harwood, was born August 4, 1871, at Bunker Hill in King and Queen County.He attended Richmond College and later George Washington University in Washington which was then Columbian University.Elected Attorney-General He was elected attorney-general of Virginia in 1913, was a member of the State Board of Education, was appointed to membership on Federal Trade Commission, which he left in ' 1931 to become professor and later dean of the Marshall-Wythe School of Government and Citizenship at William and Mary College.He served also as Mayor of Williamsburg where he lived until 1929 when he was nominated as Governor of Virginia.John Garland Pollard was one of the State Constitutional Convention’s youngest members when it met in 1900.Did Educational Work During the World War he did educational work for the Federal Government among the soldiers over seas.Upon his retirement from the Exe- , cutive Mansion he was named chair-I man of the Veterans’ Board of Appeals , in Washington, and there resided with his wife, the former Miss Violet Mc-Dougall.Dr. Pollard was the son of Dr. John Pollard who was pastor of Leigh Street Baptist Church and later Professor of English at the University of | Richmond.
