On the 30th ult., Edmund Curd, jof Calloway county, Kentucky, took : a shot-gun from the rack in the;! house, remarking at the time that he , j intended to shoot a hawk,approached ,I the woodpile, where his step-mother was standing, and discharged the contents of the gun in her body, |I causing instant death. After thei act, he went to his brother’s resi- I dencc, some half or three-quarters | of a mile off, told what he had done, j j and then left for parts unknown. !
