Film Marks Birthday of L. A. Republic NEW YORK — James L. Hicks, New York correspondent for the AFRO-AMERICAN Newspapers, arrived in Haiti Saturday along with reporters from five other col ored newspapers and magazines to spend four days as guests of 20th Century Fox Films and the Haitian government. They will witness the showing of the first American film ever to hold its world premiere outside the United States. The film, “Lydia Bailey,” pro duced by 20th Century Fox, Sun day, followed a formal ball giv en by Haitian President Paul Magloire for the visiting news men and members of the “Lydia Bailey” cast. Republic’s 150th Birthday The film, which deals with Hai ti’s successful struggle for inde pendence, was shown on the date of the 150th anniversary of the Peace negotiations between Tous saint L’Ouverture, Haiti’s great national hero, and General Le clerc, Napoleon's brother-in-law. —The—newsmen—traveling—in two chartered planes, left New York's Idlewild Airport Saturday morning (Continued on Page 2)
