A testimony to the quality of Mount Dora’s young men was set forth Saturday night when 17 Eagle Scout awards—the highest honor in Scout dom—were presented at the Mount Dora Senior Scout Bridge of Honor. Scout executives say that is the largest number of Eagles ever pre sented in one Bridge of Honor. Scout Master Walter Patton said the largest he has ever heard of being presented was in Chicago, where an outfit was a acandal Scout Executive Ernest Hogan of the Central Florida Council presided at the affair which was held in the new Boy Scout house in Gilbert park. Attending were parents and sweet hearts of the young men receiving the awards. At the same time, several Mount Dora boys won the coveted Explorer Ranger awards, Life badges, Star badges, Air Scout Observer badges, and Palms, in addition to the 289 merit badges that were presented by George J. White. Three of the Scouts, Ross Dutton, Jimmy Vincent and Bobby Turner, won the God and Country award, given for at least 150 hours, de voted to the church. The presenta tion was made by Rev. George Gib son. High awards in addition to the Eagles went to the following: Bud dy White, Billy Stephens, L. G. Simpson, Clyde Mosteller, Billy La froos, W. L. Harriett and Robert Hall, as well as Scout Leaders Wil liam Jay Barker and Bobby Good man, Explorer Rangers, Davis Moor head, George Simms, and Ray Sta ton, Life; Chuck Allen, Carrol Griggs, Moorhead, Donald.Schu bert and Herbert Trenham, Star awards; Jimmy Wetz, Air Scout Observer; Goodman, Air Scout Craftsman; Vincent, Howard Nut ter and Ross Dutton, Air Scout Ace. Bobby Turner, bronz palm; Wetz, gold palm; Goodman, silver palm, and Barker, gold palm. Eagle Scouts are: Howard Nutter, Robert Hall, Ross Dutton, Raoul Barker, Clyde Mosteller, Vincent, Wilbur Bloyd, Verdual Hamlin, L. G. Simpson, W. L. Har riett, Billy Lofroos, Buddy White, Fred Wise, William Stevens, and Johnny Gargano. Two seatee Eagles were award ed. Harrold June whose grand mother, Mrs. H. Harrold, died Saturday, was able to attend the presentation, and Jay Swank, who is in San Diego attending a naval school, could not return for the honor. Presentation of the Eagles was made by Ray Putnam, Scout com missioner of the Orange district, and Darrell Janson of Leesburg, pre sented the Air Scout awards.
