Thirty-five years in the priest hood. That is the record which will be celebrated next Sunday by the Rt. Rev. Msgr. J. M. Walsh, V. F., pastor of St. Mary's church. It was on June 9, 1800, in St. Paul, Minn. when Monsignor Walsh was ordained by the late Archbishop John Ireland. The well-known Ottumwan has since served in many positions in the Catholic denomination, and has gradually advanced in his chosen work. Late in 1933 he re ceived an appointment from Pope Pius XI as a member of the papal court with rank of monsig nor. Monsignor Walsh was born in Riverside, in Washington county, and attended St. Ambrose college, Davenport, and the St. Paul semi nary, St. Paul. After his ordina tion he served as assistant pastor at St. Ambrose cathedral, Des Moines, the cathedral in Daven port, and churches in Morris and Council Bluffs. He was pastor in Washington in 1907 and in Albia in 1911. In 1919 he assisted in a large endowment fund drive for St. Ambrose college. Monsignor Walsh came to Ot tumwa March 4, 1924, and has served the St. Mary’s congregation more than eleven years. He said today that there were no special plans for observing his thirty-fifth anniversary. MONSIGNOR WALSH.
