Franciscan Father Praised for Long and Faithful Career in the ‘Church, at Services. Two thousand people made the sil ver jubilee of Rev. Daniel Finkenhofer, ©. F. M, the brilliant crowning of twenty-five years of service in the priesthood of the Catholic church, ‘Almost without ‘interruption the fes tivities in honor of the ordination an nniversary of the pastor of St. John's Catholic church continued all yester day in St. John’s church and school. At 10:15 the first part of the day's pro gram heger witt solemn Nigh nass in the church. At noor there was 4 ban quet attended by sixty priests and parishioners. Troops, of school chil dren gave a program in the afternoon and in the evening the adults of the parish played, sang and acted as their contribution to their pastor's honor. Promptly at 10:15 Father Daniel, white-robed in the vestments of his of fice, stepped out of the monastery door. A long line of flower girls, headed by little Amelia Nussbaum, and a dozen priests were waiting and immediately led the way, into the church, which was a bower of flowers and decorations, the red, white and blue of the national colors intertwined with the white and yellow of the papacy. The mass began immediately. Father Daniel was célebrant, Rev. Henry Kuester, superior of St. Peter's church, Chicago, deacon; Rev. Bar tholomew Feldman, assistant at St. Augustine's church, Chicago, sub deacon; and Rev. Lulius Seeboth of Joliet, master of ceremonies. Church Packed to Doors. In seats of honor outside the sanc tuary were Amelia Nussbaum and the twenty other flower girls. Little Miss Nussbaum carried a wreath which she later presented to Father Daniel. The church was packed to the doors. Father Daniel's work in the priest hood was eulogized in two short talks. Rev. P. B. Schuetz, O. F. M.,of St. Augustine's church, Chicago, spoke in German. His was a doctrinal talk. He pointed what the Catholic ideal of a priest is and showed how the jubi leean exerted every energy. to live up to that ideal. He spoke of the priest being a teacher and a physician .of souls and told some of the things Father Daniel had done. to fulfill his office. In“the talk of Very” Rev. « Michael Richardt, O. F. ,M....of , St. John's church, the missionary work , that Father Daniel has engaged in was spoken of. “For eighteen years, said Father Michiel, ‘our Superior, here, was a missionary working in all parts of the United States. He, labored long and hard for his people, teaching them, exhorting them, making them better Catholics, and ex tending the blessings of the Faith to many outside the church .Through all the twenty-five years of his ministry he has never spared, himself in the service of others. Through him God's blessings have been poured out to many souls. He has done his duty, he has served the Lord to the best of his power. “During these past twenty-five years, Father Daniel has done much for the cause of religion in the United States. He is now in the prime of life. We hope that his service of the Lord may become yet more fruitful and that it may continue for many years more.” Children Give Program. _ Following the mass, the banquet was held. At 3 p. m., the children of St. John's school gave their program in the school hall As Father Daniel entered the hall, the 700 men, women and children stood. He was escorted by Rev. J. B. Murray, pastor of St. Mary's church; Rev. Thomas O’Brien, assistant pastor of St. Patrick's church; ‘Rev. A. 8. Olszewski, pastor of Holy Cross church, and the priests of his monas tery. After the song of welcome rendered by the commercial class,and the eighth grade, short speeches were made by ‘Madeline Berkes, Louisa Barthelme,
