DOG WAS HER ONLY PRESENT FROM HER FATHER—MAD STONE HUNG TO WOUND ONE HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES —SHE IS NOW QUITE SICK, DUE TO FRIGHT—DOG*BITTEN ONE WEEK AGO. Miss Bernice, the fourteen year old daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Cooper, of near Marietta, was bitten by a mad dog Monday noon from which she has suffered severely since. The young woman was the owner of the dog that bit her and had had him for over a year. About a week ago he was bitten by another dog which was mad, but he was not killed owing to the fact that he was the only present which she had ever received from her father, who killed ‘himself in Hendricks’ township last summer. After the dog was bitten he was placed in a pen and carefully watch ed, his owner thinking she could cure him. Some time Monday he got loose and killed three of the chickens of Mr. and Mrs. George Snapp, of near Mt. Auburn, with whom the young lady makes her home. The dog was re-captured and put back in the pen. A little later he broke out again and as soon as he saw the young lady he jumped for her. Her apron was pulled off and her clothes badly torn. The dog inflicted a slight bite up on the forefinger of her left hand, which was not serious had it not been for the fact that the animal was mad. The screams of the fright ened young woman soon brought as sistance and the dog was killed. Her uncle took her immediately to Mt. Auburn to the home of Barbara Moore, where the mad stone was ap plied. The stone would not stick to the wound until the fourth applica tion when it adhered for one hour and twenty minutes. The attending physician said that he was sure all of the poison had been drawn out. After the stone had refused to stick longer the wound was dressed. Miss Cooper has been quite sick since the accident, but her physician says her illness is due to fright and nervous ness and not to any poison from the bite. Miss Cooper is the grand-daughter of Michael Snyder, now deceased, who was one of the most prominent farmers of Hendricks township dur ing his lifetime. Her mother is a sister to Mrs. George Snapp, of near Mt. Auburn, and to George Snyder, of near Marietta.
