Webb has completed painting the Davis block, which presents a very neat appearance. Charles E. Storms will make final proof on his pre-emption claim tomor row before Judge Warner. Z. T. Burton returned from Benton on Tuesday evening bringing with him his wife and daughter, Glendora. It is a notorious fact that there are more calls at the hotel tables for beef steak on time than for quail on toast. On Wednesday O. C. Cooper was sum moned to appear before the U.S. Cir cuit Court at Helena as a witness on some important land case. M. F. Allen and wife left for Missoula Thursday morning.r Allen goes as a delegate from Chateau to the State con vention, which meets there next week. ‘Link Humble, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed through town on “unday last with 73 head of fine beef‘, |- era designed for Major Steell’s wards at the Blackfeet agency. This morning A. E. During the storm of last week, Olney P. Strode, a brother of T. P. Strode, the prominet sheepman of the of the Sweet Grass Hills country, perished while en deavoring to bring his band of sheep to camp. Deputy U. S. Marshall Geo. Adlam left today for the Birch Creek country on business connected with the U. S. District Court, which convenes at Helena today. .For the past three or four weeks he has been ‘kept pretty busy look ing after evil doers. Parties who purchased lots at the ad ministrator’s sale of the Hazlett estate should call on A. ©. Warner during the absence of Mr. Hamilton, for their deeds. The administrator desires to close the matter,as soon as possible and if the deeds are not called for in a reasonable time they will be withheld. The school board held a special meet ing yesterday, at which all the members were present. The meeting was for the purpose of arranging for the next term of school. The old corps of teachers were retained at their present salaries of $105 and $65 per month, and a term of ten months was decided upon. ‘The present term closes early in June. Constable Adlam “ran in” a tough character last Tuesday who was spoil ing to do up the town. He was arraign ed in court on a charge of drawing a dead ly weapon. He plead guilty and was fined. Mr. Adlam’s action in trying to keep the peace will met the approval of all good citizens. Mr. Z. S. Burton, of Chateau, arrived last evening, via Great Falls, as a dele gate to the republican county conven tion. He is one of the progressive men of the upper country, and has done much during his stay in that section to bring about its fullest development, be ing president of and one of the moving factors in the Eureka Irrigation com pany. Mr. Burton is earnest in his ad vocacy of county division, and the crea tion of Teton county, not that he loves Chateau county less, but because he believes the creation of a new county would be a saving and an advantage to all concerned.—River Press.
