SAUK RAPIDS AND SUPERIORROAD.V V 'jWh«n the Mississippi is connected by Rail Road, with 4he Head of Lake Superior, we shaft see an important trifle between the two countries. Trade and Commerce can be carried on with England, the Continent, and with the east*' era cities of the States, with the same facility that they can from Chicago.— Rut to bring this about, there must be a .*■ line of communication, such as a Rail* , i • L kRoad affords, between the Head of Su-%perior and some point on the Mississippi River; it may make but little difference where the point of connection is, whether it be Crow Wing, Little Falls or Sauk Rapids, it would all be the same so far as its importance to the country is concerned ; but such a connection is of the greatest importance to the Upper Mississippi country, and of vital importance to the Lake Superior region, as it will be impossible for the latter country, without it, to sccuro a trade, or assume that commercial position to which it seems entitled by being at the head of the great line of water communication of the Great Lakes. With a good wagon road from this to Lnke Superior the expense of procuring goods from the eastern market would be very much les-sened to the whole Upper Mississippi country, if not to all portions of Minnesota, and the vast and fertile region traversed by the Pacific Rail Road Expedition, under Gov. Stevens, would be set tied by emigration over this route.— From this point to Lake Superior, with a good wagon road but two days more would be required for a trip with a loaded team, than, it Dow takes a team to go from here to St. Paul, with aload. When we reflect that it costs no, • *more to land goods at Superior City from the eastern market than it does to land them at Chicago, it can be easilyeseen that the difference in cost, betweenthe two routes must be great. Understanding the importance of a road connecting us directly with Superior, we trust the one which is, by act of our0Legislature, to be laid out from this to that point, will be surveyed at once, and opened as soon as possible.
