Hermansville Has Large Squad Competing In Track Hermansville, Mich. — Coach Jack W. Kleimola, for the past 13 years basketball mentor, has turned to track this spring where he is handling a squad of 21 hope fuls who will represent the Red skins in the various meets this year Kleimola, who amassed a mag nificent record coaching basket ball, was greeted by the largest turnout for track in the history of the sport in the local school. Some 21 boys answered Kleimola’s call, most of them inexperienced with last year’s veterans return ing. Kleimola will send his thin cad’s against Harris and Powers- Spalding in a meet at Hermans ville Saturday afternoon. The cage mentor, has been drilling his boys hard for the past two weeks and has cut his squad down to 16 boys of which all will enter the meet Saturday, their first meet of the year. Various time drills have indicated that the Redskins will have a promising team with the boys improving as practice drills continue. Among the 21 boys that are out for track are: Robert MacEach ern, Robert Sutherland, John Tolmich, Derwaine Bellmore, Darrell Younk, Joseph Prenevost, Dick Dani, Ernest Dani, Dick Si vula, Ken Maga, Frank Furlich, John Minerick, William and Rog er Whitens, Lewis Menard, Rich ard Meiner, Steven LaCoursier, Henry Lombard, James Whitens, Ted Peterson, Jack Bell. Leading the Redskins this year will be Robert MacKEachern, John Minerick, Robert Sutherland, and Ken Maga, MacHachern is expect ed to replace Fodesato in the dashes and will run the hurdles. Sutherland again is entered in the shot put and the high jump. Maga again is expected to run the half-mile, an event he was un beaten in last year. These are the boys, Klieimola is counting on, with these boys veterans of two or three seasons, they are expect ed to count heavily in this week's meet. Also back is John Minerick, pole vaulter, who holds the U. P. record in that event, Hiermansville high school holds 5 Class D-E records and one state record. Reno Fodesato, speed ster, holds three D-E records in the 100 yard dash, 10,2; 220 yard dash, 24.0; and the broad jump, 20’ 5 5-8 . His 10.2 in the 100 yard dash is tops in all classes in the state. Tuellio Marana holds the record in 120 yard high hur dled with a mark of 16.5 seconds. John Minerick holds the pole vault record of 10 ° 9 1-4 . Reno Fodesato, speedster, who entered his senior year in school last fall, was inducted into the Navy in October and is now sta tioned in Hawaii aboard a PT boat. Meets scheduled for the Red skins include this Saturday's with ilarris and Powers. They will en ter the district meet at lorn Moun tain May 13 and are expected to enter at Houghton on May 20. Hermansville again this year is expected to enter the Upper Pen insula Relays at Escanaba where last year they walked away with 4 out of 6 cups.
