Pvt. Earl Callahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Callahan of this city, was recently awarded he ro heart for wounds recely while in Italy. Pvt. Callahan was inducted in to the army on the 31st of Octo ber, 1942 through Jefferson Barracks. From there he was transferred to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, with the field artillery. After five months of extensive training he was ship ped to North Africa where he took part in the campaigns of North Africa and Sicily. On Easter Sunday in 1943 he had the goo fortune to meet his brother, Lt. Leroy Callahan, In Casablanca. They had been shipped to the same replace ment center but were separated the next day. Earl was with the Fifth Army on their invasion of Italy. There also he was lucky in meeting his brother, Lt. Leroy, again. On November 8th of last year he was reported missing in ac ion, but was back on duty with his company by December 12th. On his 22nd birthday, Febru ary 8th, he received wounds again, during the battle of Cas hina. Tie was released from the hospital on the 12th of March, and is back on duty again. PYT, EARL CALLAHAN
