CHEBOYGAN BERBEN MERCHANT AND WIFE CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDINGThe Event Alt ended by About Forty of Their Closest Friends and RelativesLast Sunday, May 1st, marked the half centuxy of years since Mr. and Mrs. Ben Merchant were married and as a fitting: observance of the occasion, almost a half hundred of their closest friends and relatives assembled at their home in Aloha township and the merry events that followed gave evidence that the kindly old home folks will remember to the end of their days this glorious golden wedding day,The event was begun by the aged couple and the families attending mass at the St. Mary’s churchy in the morning*, then the party repaired to Merchant home near Aloha for the balance of the day indulged 4 in an honest-to-gorxiness celebration with all kind of merriment, dinners and everything.A delightfully bounteous dinner was served, the tables being decorated in white and gold and the whole embellished with a huge centerpiece in the shape of a great wedding cake The cake was also decorated in white and gold leaves.Mr. Merchant was born in Three Rivers, Ontario, on March fjth, IB55 and his estimable companion was born on March 20th, 1851. They were united in marriage in that village on May 1st, 1877. Mrs. Merchant’s maiden name was Louise Paquette. To Mr. and Mrs. Merchant were horn thirteen children of which seven are living, namely Mrs. Mary Pethers, Ben Merchant, Jr., John Merchant and William Merchant all of Cheboygan. George Merchant at home, Jos. Merchant at Jackson and Phillip also living at home .All were present for the celebration,Out of town friends and relatives sent many beautiful tokens of esteem and remembrances expressing theii gratification and happiness with the aged couple.
