C. Scoles, and patented, has been on exhibition and in successful operation at the residence of Albert Scoles, in this city, and has attracted a good deal of attention, receiving the commendation ot machinists and railroad men. It works easily, skillfully, with the utmost precision, and seems to be the thing necessary, accomplishing that which so many have attempted and failed. The construction of this coupler is such that the coupling of two cars together is accomplished automatically by the simple contact of the cars, and they may be uncoupled from any part of the train without the danger which attaches to all devices where the operator has to pass between the platforms of the cars. This invention con sists in the construction, arrangement and adaptation of two levers on each drawbar, which act in connection with each other, the action of each being modified by the action of the other. The construction of these levers is such that they present an inclined surface to the opposite coupler. As soon as the approaching car is sufficiently near, so that the link or coupler bears upon this inclined surface, it depresses that end of the lever, and being pivoted near its center it elevates the opposite end and the coupling pin until the coupling link has passed beneath the same, wh«i the pin drops down through the link and the coupling is completed, the whole having been accomplished by the simple contact of the cars. No ordinary jarring will uncouple the cars. It is a perfect, efficient Car Coupler and must certainly come into general U6e on Railroads.
