Both girls will play college basketball ^next year—Miss Schulte at Howard County gJunior College and Miss Hartman at the University of Texas at Austin. p★NHS all-sports banquet-parade of state winnersNazareth High School’s All-Sports Banquet Monday night featured a parade of state champions in girls’ basketball and girls' tennis, with another state title still possible in boys' tennis.Two girls who competed at the state level in two sports shared the top girls' trophy of the year, the Swift Award. They were seniors Cheryl Hartman and Karen Schulte, both of whom were all-state basketball players the past two years and state qualifiers in girls’ track.Winner of the Swift Award for Boys was Derwin Huse-man, who was all-district and all-South Plains in football, all-district in basketball, and is a member of the boys’ doubles team that will compete at the state tennis tourney in Austin this weekend.Coach George Cox presented the Swift Award for Girls, while Coach Eddie Hooper may the boys’ Swift Award presentation The award is designated for the best all-around boy and girl athletes in the school.Patricia Kern and Kenny Brockman were given special athletic-scholastic awards.Many other NHS athletes won “N” Award certificates for distinguishing themselves in athletics as all-district, all-regional, all-south Plains or state qualifiers.
