Beckleyifes Get $15,000 DamagesMrs. Edward I*. Willis and Daughter Settle With PlaintiffMrs. Edward P. Willis and herdaughter received $15,000 as compensation for her husband’s death and injuries suffered by the child and herself in an automobile accident near Hurricane last September 4 with an Anchor Motor Freight company truck.The damage suits asking $25,000 were settled at the lower amount in federal district court at Charleston yesterday by the Beckley firm of Sayre and Bowers, representing the plaintiffs, and defense counsel, Brown, Jackson, and Knight, of Charleston.The truck-trailer collided with the Willis car as it was coming off a narrow bridge this side of Hurricane on Route 60. Willis died, Mrs. Willis suffered serious injuries, and the child received cuts and bruises.The actions were first scheduled for the Raleigh county circuitcourt but were transferred to federal court on motion of the defendants on the grounds that the company was from another state.
