MEMORIAL DAY TO BE OBSERVED HERE SUNDAYMemorial Day will be observed in Statesville, Sunday May 7, with! a program at the old cemetery, beginning at .3:30 o’clock in the afternoon, it was announced yesterday at the meeting of the United Daughters of the Confederacy held at the home of Mrs. B. F. Long.Mrs. Stephen Blankenship, pro gram chairman, announced that there will be selections by the city band under the direction of Dr. Charles Turner. Dr. C. E. Raynal will have the invocation and Rev. H. G. Allen the memorial address.A salute over the graves will be made by the State Guard firing squad and Earl Davis will sound the taps. Graves of the soldier dead in both the old and new cemetery will be decorated in the usual procedure.
