Friday evening a wet snow began falling and which continued uninterupt-edly until late Saturday night, covering the ground in some of the mountainous sections to the depth of eighteen inohes, while the ground in the immediate vicinity had about ten inohes. It was a wet snow and clung to the wires and trees, doing untold damage, especially to the service companies. In all sections of the town, in fact everywhere, valuable fruit and Bhade trees were greatly damaged by limbs giving way under the heavy weight of the snow, and many home owners and others have since been clearing away the limbs.The public service companies have been especially hard hit Trolly service ou the Altoona k Logan Vallry line was suspended from about nine o’clock Friday night until Sunday morning. The poles and lines of the Penn Ceo-tral company were down in large numbers in all sections ot Central Penna., and especially the lines comiog from Williamsburg and Saxton, from which sources the power is obtained. The Penn Central company supplies power to the Home Electric and Steam Heatiug company of Tyrone, which also supplies the borough with light, and as a iyult thewere in darkness Saturday night.The companies placed large forces ot men at work and Sundaymorning the community was supplied with light. A large number of electric and telephone poles in the borough gave way to the heavy weight of the snow which clung tenaciously to the wires.Railroad service was not much interupted by the fall of snow, although some difficulty was experienced in the running ot trains, due to no communication to the towers. The loss will run into the thousands and will require a number of weeks of bard work and the expenditure of much money to restore the telephone and other lines to their former condition.The public service companies are to be commended tor the prompt manner in which they restored partial service, for they were unusually hard hit.
