by Kevin Novreske Staff Writer Last week the women’s soft ball team had a long and tiring week with four doubleheaders in five days. The first double header was on Wednesday against conference rival Cornell. In the first game, Nancy Kahle pitched to lead the Kohawks to a 4-0 win. Diane Meyers scored two runs, while Kim Russ and Tracy Athey added the other two. Kathy McGuire knocked in two of the runs. In the second game, the team won 5-1 behind the pitching of Corinne Yogi and Kris Crabtree in relief. Meyers went 3 for 4 with one RBI and scored two runs. Also having a good day at the plate was Russ who scored once and knocked in two RBI's. The other runs were scored by Carla Gibney and Stacy Riams, with Leah chalking up an RBI. On Friday, the softball team faced Knox. In the first game, the Kohawks won 10-1 with Kahle going the distance pitch ing. Many of the Kohawks had a good game at the plate. Gabney went 3 for 4 with one run and three RBIs, Meyers went 3 hits for 4 at bats, Kristy Loftus went 2 for 3 with one walk, one run and two RBIs and both Russ and McGuire scored one run and had two RBIs. Scoring the other runs were Thomas, Kahle, and Athey. In the second game, the Kohawks lost 3-2. Kahle was credited with the loss. At the plate, Kahle went 1 for 1 with two walks and Sams went 1 for 2 with two walks. Athey knocked in both RBIs. On Saturday, the team played Monmouth. Saturday was a long day for the Kohawks with them losing both games. The first game was lost by a score of 1-0 with Nancy Kahlo pitching. Russ had the only hit for the team. In the second game the score was 4-2 with Corinne Yogi the losing pitcher. Meyers went 2 for 3 both runs. Joyce Venver tloh also went 2 for 3 at the plate. Kahle had the only RBI for the Kohawks. Sunday the Kohawks went against number three ranked Buena Vista, who were last years NCAA Division III Soft ball champions. In the first game, Coe lost 11-0. Crabtree was the losing pitcher. Meyers was the only batter to reach base when she walked in the 6th inning. In the second game, Coe lost 6-3 with Kahle the losing pitch er. At the plate Loftus went 1 for 4 scoring 1 run, McGuire went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Russ was 2 for 3 with one RBI and Thomas went 1 for 3. The other runs were scored by Riams and Cindy Running, who was pinch-running for Thomas. The Coe Softball team fin ished the season with a 19-9-1] record and 9-3 in the confer ence.
